What Should I Be Thankful For?

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States. In preparation for that holiday, I have been thinking about some of the things I am thankful for. Here are some ideas that occurred to me as I studied the Book of Mormon today:

  1. I’m grateful to be alive (Mosiah 2:20-21, Mosiah 7:12).
  2. I’m grateful for food and shelter (1 Nephi 16:32, Alma 8:22).
  3. I’m grateful for good friends and neighbors (1 Nephi 7:22).
  4. I’m grateful for my ancestors (Jacob 4:3).
  5. I’m grateful for freedom, peace, and prosperity (Mosiah 2:4, Alma 48:11-12, Helaman 13:22).
  6. I’m grateful for deliverance from danger (Alma 45:1, Alma 49:28).
  7. I’m grateful that trials and difficult times don’t last forever (3 Nephi 10:10).
  8. I’m grateful for the guidance I and my family have received from the Lord (1 Nephi 2:7, Ether 6:9).
  9. I’m grateful for the scriptures (1 Nephi 5:9-10, 2 Nephi 29:3-4, Mosiah 1:3-6).
  10. I’m grateful for revelation (Mosiah 8:19).
  11. I’m grateful for the immediate goodness of God (Mosiah 25:10).
  12. I’m grateful to see firsthand the joy that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings into people’s lives (Alma 19:14, Alma 26:37).
  13. I’m grateful for repentance (Alma 24:7-10, Mormon 9:31).
  14. I’m grateful for purifying power of the Holy Ghost (3 Nephi 19:20, 28).

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
