God has a plan for us, which President Russell M. Nelson has called “God’s fabulous plan” (“Think Celestial,” General Conference, October 2023).
Book of Mormon prophets gave this plan a number of titles, including:
- Jacob: “The merciful plan of the great Creator” (2 Nephi 9:6)
- Nephi: “The great and eternal plan of deliverance from death” (2 Nephi 11:5)
- Jacob: “The great plan of redemption” (Jacob 6:8; see also Alma 12:25-33, Alma 17:16, Alma 18:39, Alma 22:13, Alma 29:2, Alma 34:16, 31, Alma 39:18, Alma 42:11-13)
- Jarom: “The plan of salvation” (Jarom 1:2; see also Alma 24:14, Alma 42:5)
- Amulek: “The great plan of the Eternal God” (Alma 34:9)
- Alma: “The plan of restoration” (Alma 41:2)
- Alma: “The great plan of happiness” (Alma 42:8, 16)
- Alma: “The plan of mercy” (Alma 42:15, 31)
Elder Patrick Kearon observed that these titles remind us that God intends to save us:
The intent of the Father’s great plan of happiness is your happiness, right here, right now, and in the eternities….
The intent of the Father’s plan of redemption is in fact your redemption, your being rescued through the sufferings and death of Jesus Christ, freed from the captivity of sin and death….
The intent of the Father’s plan of mercy is to extend mercy as you turn back to Him and honour your covenant of fidelity to Him….
The intent of the Father’s plan of salvation is in fact your salvation in the celestial kingdom of glory as you receive “the testimony of Jesus” and offer your whole soul to Him.
“God’s Intent Is to Bring You Home,” General Conference, April 2024
Jarom highlighted the fact that those who had written before him had “revealed the plan of salvation” (Jarom 1:2). That’s what prophets do: They declare the good news that God wants to save us and has prepared a way to do so.
Today, I will remember that the Father’s plan of salvation is intended for my salvation and for the salvation of all of His children. I will trust Him to save me as I strive to follow Him.
