6 And now when Alma heard this, he turned him about, his face immediately towards him, and he beheld with great joy; for he beheld that their afflictions had truly humbled them, and that they were in a preparation to hear the word.
As Mormon relates in this verse, Alma was delighted to see a group of poor Zoramites who were prepared to learn. How did Alma know that they were ready? I see at least two indications:
- They came to him. As Mormon relates in the prior verse, Alma didn’t have to find them and persuade them to listen. Instead, they approached him and requested to be taught.
- They asked a sincere question. The leader of the group asked what they could do since they were excluded from the synagogues. How could they worship God? This kind of question indicates a desire to be more righteous, not just passive curiosity.
Today, I will let the Lord know that I am ready to learn. I will approach Him in prayer and ask Him meaningful questions. I will listen carefully for answers and strive to put into practice the guidance I receive from Him.
