That They May Know the Covenants of the Lord – Title Page

…Which is to show unto the remnant of the house of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever—And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations…

The past two weeks, I studied obedience and honesty. This week, my topic is covenants. I’ll be considering questions like the following:
  1. What does it mean to make a covenant with the Lord?
  2. Why are covenants an essential part of His gospel?
  3. What blessings do we receive as a result of our covenants?
  4. What are the consequences of breaking our covenants?
If you have additional questions about covenants which you would like to explore, please add a comment to this page or send me an email with your question. I’d love to hear from you!
I decided to start at the beginning today: on the title page of the Book of Mormon. The title page is part of the book, and it was apparently written by Moroni. One of the three purposes of the Book of Mormon, as defined in this passage, relates specifically to covenants: “that they might know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever.”
The Book of Mormon shows us how God’s covenants work, both on a global scale (the scattering and gathering of Israel) and on an individual basis. As Moroni indicates, a correct understanding of covenants can give us a sense of God’s loyalty to us, which can help us to overcome discouragement and hopelessness.
In my scripture study this week, I will seek to understand covenants better in order to recognize that I am not “cast off forever,” that the Lord is with me and will help me overcome every difficulty I face. I will think about the covenants I have made with God, and will consider what I can do to better understand those covenants and to remain true to them.
