In the fifth year of their new system of government, it was challenged by a man named Amlici who wanted to be king. The question was put to a vote, and Amlici lost, but he was unwilling to accept the outcome. He and his followers tried to overthrow the government by force, eventually aligning themselves with the Lamanites. Alma and his army, strengthened by the power of God, were victorious over the rebels.
