Serve God with All Diligence Day and Night – 3 Nephi 5:3

3 Therefore they did forsake all their sins, and their abominations, and their whoredoms, and did serve God with all diligence day and night.

I’ve been studying this week about how to serve others. I’d like to think today about how I can serve God.
I like the concise formula in the verse above: forsake your sins, and serve God continually.
Sin is dead weight. It slows you down and prevents you from doing all that you otherwise could do. By repenting of our sins, we free ourselves up to serve more effectively.
Serving God is not like a job, where you are only on duty at certain times. We need to serve God continually, morning, afternoon, evening, and even at night. I think this means two things:

  1. We are always “on call,” willing to fulfill assignments which may come from Him at any time.
  2. We actively search for ways to contribute to His work.
Today, I will consider how I can serve the Lord more effectively. I will remember that, as a disciple of Christ, I am always on duty, and I will strive to be as pure as possible so that sin does not inhibit my ability to serve Him.
