20 And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost, even as the Lamanites, because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not.
Richard G. Scott provided the following words of encouragement:
Have patience as you are perfecting your ability to be led by the Spirit. By careful practice, through the application of correct principles, and by being sensitive to the feelings that come, you will gain spiritual guidance. I bear witness that the Lord, through the Holy Ghost, can speak to your mind and heart….
I testify that you can personally learn to master the principles of being guided by the Spirit. That way, the Savior can guide you to resolve challenges of life and enjoy great peace and happiness (“To Acquire Spiritual Guidance,” General Conference, october 2009).
Today, I will pay attention to my thoughts and feelings in order to continue my process of learning to recognize the influence of the Holy Ghost in my life.
I don’t think anyone has been baptized of fire and of the holy ghost as has been mentioned in the LDS church. These types of spiritual gifts have been taken away due to the covenant curse as was placed upon the church in 1832. Thank you for sharing your perspectives, Aharon. I find the words of the Savior in this passage to be remarkably inclusive and reassuring: “Whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost.” I believe that He pointed out the example of the Lamanites to illustrate that the Holy Ghost may be operating in our lives in ways that we are not fully aware of. I wish you the best in your endeavors to help others draw closer to God and to follow the doctrine of Christ!
