14 Behold, I am he who was prepared from the foundation of the world to redeem my people. Behold, I am Jesus Christ. I am the Father and the Son. In me shall all mankind have life, and that eternally, even they who shall believe on my name; and they shall become my sons and my daughters.

16 Behold, this body, which ye now behold, is the body of my spirit; and man have I created after the body of my spirit; and even as I appear unto thee to be in the spirit will I appear unto my people in the flesh.
This week, I’m studying what the Book of Mormon teaches about premortal life. In the passage above, the Lord appears to the brother of Jared. This event occurs at about the time of the Tower of Babel, thousands of years before the Savior’s birth. And yet, He appears, He talks with the brother of Jared, He identifies Himself as Jesus Christ, and He explains that His mortal body will look like the spirit body which the brother of Jared sees.
I’m grateful to know that we lived before we were born. Even though we did not have bodies like the ones we have now, we looked like we do today. Our spirits resemble our bodies, so much so that the Lord referred to “the body of my spirit” and said “even as I appear unto thee to be in the spirit will I appear unto my people in the flesh.”
Today, I will remember that my life did not begin at birth, nor did the lives of the people around me. I will treat other people with respect, knowing that they are older than their years on this earth would suggest and that their potential is far greater than is evident on the surface.
