35 And a portion of that Spirit dwelleth in me, which giveth me knowledge, and also power according to my faith and desires which are in God.
Ammon had the gift of the Holy Ghost. Therefore, he could obtain knowledge and power by exercising faith in Jesus Christ and by acting on righteous desires. In describing this gift, he emphasizes both the blessings he receives and the active role he had to play to use the gift. As Elder Bednar taught:
Praying, studying, gathering, worshipping, serving, and obeying are not isolated and independent items on a lengthy gospel checklist of things to do. Rather, each of these righteous practices is an important element in an overarching spiritual quest to fulfill the mandate to receive the Holy Ghost…. Fundamentally, all gospel teachings and activities are centered on coming unto Christ by receiving the Holy Ghost in our lives (“Receive the Holy Ghost,” General Conference, October 2010).
Today I will be grateful for the gift of the Holy Ghost. I will also be proactive in doing those things which will enable me to receive knowledge and power through this gift.
