9 Wherefore, ye may also have hope, and be partakers of the gift, if ye will but have faith.
(Ether 12:9)
What an interesting way to speak of hope: as a gift from heaven given to those who choose to have faith. It is a gift to be able to anticipate good things in the future. It is a gift to not be overcome by panic in the face of crisis. It is a gift to look forward to eternal life in the presence of God. That kind of stability, that anchoring influence in our lives, which enables us to avoid being tossed about, driven by fear, constantly anxious and unsettled, and therefore unable to serve others effectively– that hope is a gift from God, given to us as a reward for our faith!
