6 And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently; for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God.
(Moroni 9:6)
I see two important principles in these words of advice from the prophet Mormon to his son Moroni:
- Time is precious. Don’t waste it. There is work that we need to do while we are in this mortal life, and we are accountable for completing it.
- Even if the work doesn’t seem to be accomplishing its purpose, it may be accomplishing a greater purpose: the sanctification of our souls. Don’t discount the life-changing power of laboring diligently in the work of the Lord.
Today, I will use my time wisely and will focus on accomplishing the important work of the day, in all areas of my life. I will remember that I grow and develop through the work I do, and that laboring diligently in the kingdom of God is part of my spiritual preparation for returning to His presence.
