If Ye Believe This – Mormon 7:9

9 For behold, this is written for the intent that ye may believe that; and if ye believe that ye will believe this also; and if ye believe this ye will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God among them.

First, a couple of definitions:

This = The Book of Mormon
That = The Bible

Mormon is teaching us in this verse about the relationship between these two volumes of scripture. They support and complement one another; they constitute two witnesses of one gospel. Just as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost testify of each other (3 Nephi 11:36), a belief in one book of scripture will tend to increase your belief in other books of scripture. As Lehi told his son Joseph, the Book of Mormon not only provides us with new words from God but also deepens our appreciation for the words we have already received from Him (2 Nephi 3:11).
Today, I will be grateful for the unity of purpose and  the harmony of message we find in the scriptures. I will recognize the power and clarity that comes from receiving gospel of Jesus Christ from a variety of inspired sources.
