Mormon 1:15 Being Somewhat of a Sober Mind

15 And I, being fifteen years of age and being somewhat of a sober mind, therefore I was visited of the Lord, and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus.
(Mormon 1:15)

What does it mean to be “of a sober mind?” I don’t think it means to be morose or solitary.  I think a sober person can be cheerful and personable.  But I think they have a seriousness of purpose which stabilizes them and helps them avoid extremes in behavior and attitude.  They may have a sense of humor, but they don’t allow it to distract them from the important work they need to do.
I find it remarkable that Ammaron recognized this quality of soberness in Mormon at the age of 10.  I will cultivate this attribute by ensuring I remain focused on my eternal goals.
