Mosiah 23:21 Nevertheless the Lord Seeth Fit to Chasten His People

Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith.  (Mosiah 23:21)

Just when things were going so well, a major trial came along.  Why?  So that these faithful people could be tested.  This life is not a vacation — it is a test.  They had been given enough space to establish a gospel-based society, and now they were to be tested to see whether they could maintain that righteousness under adverse circumstances. Sometimes, just when things are starting to go well for us, just when we feel like we have achieved a sustainable happiness, a trial comes along to help us determine how sustainable those good habits really are.
