Mosiah 4:26 Every Man According to That Which He Hath

26 And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you–that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God–I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants. (Mosiah 4:26)

What a powerful reminder of the connection between our physical possessions and our spiritual well-being!
If we want to retain a remission of our sins over time (a spiritual need), then we need to recognize that our physical possessions are not ours at all but belong to God, and we are only acting as stewards of them.  Those possessions include money and the things that money can buy, but King Benjamin reminds us that they may also include time, talents, and energy.  Since we are totally dependent upon God for our spiritual well-being, we ought to echo His gift to us by helping others in any way we are able, including by providing for their physical needs.  We most vividly demonstrate our gratitude for His goodness by giving good gifts to those within our circle of influence.
