“As Though They Were Angels”

The sons of Mosiah loved the Lamanites, and the Lamanites who were converted to the gospel loved them. In fact, “they were treated as though they were angels sent from God to save them from everlasting destruction” (Alma 27:4).

An angel is a messenger. We usually use the word to describe spiritual beings sent by God, but mortals can also serve as angels when they teach us important truths and bring us closer to Him. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland said:

Not all angels are from the other side of the veil. Some of them we walk with and talk with—here, now, every day. Some of them reside in our own neighborhoods. … Indeed heaven never seems closer than when we see the love of God manifested in the kindness and devotion of people so good and so pure that angelic is the only word that comes to mind.

The Ministry of Angels,” General Conference, October 2008

The author of Hebrews gave the following warning: “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Hebrews 13:2).

Today, I will be grateful for the angels in my life, on both sides of the veil. I will remember that heavenly beings are mindful of me, and I will also be grateful for family, friends, and neighbors who have a positive influence on me and who lift me closer to God.
