21 Pray in your families unto the Father, always in my name, that your wives and your children may be blessed.
(3 Nephi 18:21)
When Jesus Christ visited the American continent, He told the people to pray in their families. This practice provides at least two benefits:
- By praying together, we become more unified. In allowing other family members to give voice to our prayers, and in ratifying their prayers with our own “amen,” we enable them to influence our thoughts and desires. We also refine the content of our own prayers when we serve as voice, recognizing our responsibility to accurately represent the group.
- We increase the number of prayers offered on behalf of all family members. As the family prays together, it is as though each member of the family were individually praying for the same blessings. Hearing another family member pray for you can increase your faith and unlock blessings you might not otherwise have received.
Today, I will renew my commitment to family prayer. I will remember that praying together consistently over time builds family unity and enables each family member to receive greater blessings.
