He Told Me in Plain Humility – Ether 12:39

39 And then shall ye know that I have seen Jesus, and that he hath talked with me face to face, and that he told me in plain humility, even as a man telleth another in mine own language, concerning these things;

As with all righteous characteristics, the Savior sets the example for us of humility. One way He does this is by submitting His will to the will of the Father (see 3 Nephi 11:11). Another way, as shown is the verse above, is by communicating with us at our level.
Just as an adult might crouch down to speak with a small child rather than expect the child to look up the entire conversation, the Savior is willing to meet us where we are. Maybe that is why the Savior was born poor and lived among common people. Maybe that’s why missionaries live with the people they teach, adopt their language and customs, and meet with them in their homes (see Alma 29:8).
Today, I will seek to follow the Savior’s example of humility as I interact with other people. I will consider their background and personality and will be willing to adapt my approach to theirs instead of expecting them to adapt to mine.
