40 And again, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you concerning hope. How is it that ye can attain unto faith, save ye shall have hope?…
42 Wherefore, if a man have faith he must needs have hope; for without faith there cannot be any hope.
These verses, from a sermon by Mormon on the topic of faith, hope, and charity, teach us how interconnected faith and hope are. There can be no genuine hope without faith, and when we obtain faith, we will also have hope.
To have faith is to trust the Lord, to believe that He is both willing and able to help us overcome every challenge we face. We evidence our faith by taking action. Inherent in that action is an expectation of a positive outcome, which is hope. To have faith in Jesus Christ is to hope for salvation through His grace.
Today, I will remember my hope is bound to my faith. If I become discouraged, I will remember my Savior will press forward in faith. I will face the challenges of the day with optimism and enthusiasm because of my confidence in the promises of God.
