All Things What Ye Should Do – 2 Nephi 31:1-3

1 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, I suppose that ye ponder somewhat in your hearts concerning that which ye should do after ye have entered in by the way. But, behold, why do ye ponder these things in your hearts?
2 Do ye not remember that I said unto you that after ye had received the Holy Ghost ye could speak with the tongue of angels? And now, how could ye speak with the tongue of angels save it were by the Holy Ghost?
3 Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do.

After baptism, we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, which is the right to the constant companionship of the third member of the Godhead. As I discussed in a post two weeks ago, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are perfectly united. Therefore, to have the Holy Ghost with us is to be in the presence of God. The words which the Holy Ghost speaks to us are the words of Christ; they are also the words of the Father. To follow the Holy Ghost is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
In the passage above, Nephi chides those of us who enter the gospel path through baptism and then wonder what we should do next. Why do you ponder what you should do, he asks. Don’t you know that you now hold the key? With the companionship of the Holy Ghost, you have access to the knowledge of God, which is a knowledge of all things (2 Nephi 9:20). He has promised “to guide you in wisdom’s paths” (Mosiah 2:36). Therefore, you need never wonder what you should do; you need only ask.
I recognize that God will not reveal all things at once and that we need to walk by faith. But He has promised that “by the power of the Holy Ghost, [we] may know the truth of all things” (Moroni 10:5). I’m grateful for the assurance of divine guidance as I navigate this life of uncertainty and confusion. Even though I can’t know everything today, I’m grateful that I will receive the knowledge I need to walk in righteousness today.
