He Suffereth It – 1 Nephi 19:9

9 And the world, because of their iniquity, shall judge him to be a thing of naught; wherefore they scourge him, and he suffereth it; and they smite him, and he suffereth it. Yea, they spit upon him, and he suffereth it, because of his loving kindness and his long-suffering towards the children of men.

I love the alliteration in this verse. How did the Savior respond to being scourged, smitten, and even spit upon? He suffered it. Why? “Because of his loving kindness and long-suffering towards the children of men.” The evidence of His love is in the suffering He bore. The irony is that He was rejected by the very people He was suffering to save.
To love someone is to be willing to make sacrifices on their behalf. The Savior made the ultimate sacrifice to wash away our sins. He thereby demonstrated that He loves us with a perfect love. Today, I will remember that perfect love and will be grateful for it. I will also strive to emulate Him by making sacrifices on behalf of the people I love.
