2 And it came to pass in the thirty and sixth year, the people were all converted unto the Lord, upon all the face of the land, both Nephites and Lamanites, and there were no contentions and disputations among them, and every man did deal justly one with another.
3 And they had all things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free, but they were all made free, and partakers of the heavenly gift.
This passage reminds me of the description of the city of Enoch in Moses 7:18.
And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.
When we are converted to the Lord, contention vanishes and economic inequality disappears. One reason this happens is because we care about each other and recognize that the welfare of other people is vital to our own happiness. Another reason is because, as “partakers of the heavenly gift,” we see worldly wealth in its proper perspective. We recognize the limitations of temporal things and place the highest value on things that money cannot buy.
Today, I will emulate these Nephites and Lamanites. I will strive to live peacefully with those around me and to prioritize eternal blessings above temporal ones.
