21 Pray in your families unto the Father, always in my name, that your wives and your children may be blessed.
Why is it important that we pray with our families?
- We learn how to pray by listening to the prayers offered by other family members.
- We express love for each other by asking Heavenly Father to bless members of our family while they are listening.
- As Jesus promises in the passage above, Heavenly Father answers those prayers and blesses the members of our family.
- As Richard G. Scott taught, family prayer provides vital protection for those who participate:
Parents, help safeguard your children by arming them morning and night with the power of family prayer. Children are bombarded every day with the evils of lust, greed, pride, and a host of other sinful behaviors. Protect your children from daily worldly influences by fortifying them with the powerful blessings that result from family prayer. Family prayer should be a nonnegotiable priority in your daily life (“Make the Exercise of Your Faith Your First Priority,” General Conference, October 2014).
Today, I will review our patterns of family prayer. I will work with my family to ensure that we are praying morning and night and maximizing the opportunities for family members to participate.
