Mosiah 8 – Ammon Teaches Limhi About Prophets and Seers

Minerva Teichert, “Record of the Jaredites,” c. 1949-1951

Mosiah 7Mosiah 9

After King Limhi reminded his people of their history, Ammon shared with them the events in Zarahemla, including King Benjamin’s speech. The king then asked Ammon if he could translate a Jaredite record on twenty-four plates which his people had found. Ammon assured him that King Mosiah could translate them, and he taught Limhi about prophets and seers.

Chapter Outline

  1. Ammon shares the history of their people in Zarahemla (v. 1-4)
  2. Limhi’s plates and the Jaredite plates (v. 5-14)
  3. Seers and prophets (v. 15-18)
  4. Limhi’s psalm (v. 19-21)

My Takeaways

  1. The scriptures can function like a Urim and Thummim, helping us receive personal revelation.
  2. A person who receives revelation (a seer) and is authorized to communicate that revelation to others (a revelator) is also acting as a spokesman for God (a prophet). The three roles go together.
