The conversion of the Lamanites brought blessings to them and to the Nephites. Many Nephites were converted by Lamanite missionaries. Also free commerce between the two groups of people made everyone more prosperous.
However, the Gadianton robbers remained active among the Nephites. They assassinated two chief judges in the same year. While the Lamanites worked hard to eliminate these secret bands by preaching the gospel to them, the Nephites supported them and built them up until they had permeated the land and taken over the government.
