King after king attempts to lead the Jaredite people, with varying degrees of success. Some preside over periods of prosperity and peace. Some live in wickedness and suffer the consequences. Some dwell in captivity. In the end, Com gains control over the kingdom again, but he is unable to subdue the secret combinations which have arisen again.

My Takeaways
- Take advantage of the opportunities you have been given. Move forward with diligence and with gratitude.
- We should hold ourselves to the same standard of excellence in our private conduct that we do in public.
- Leadership roles are responsibilities, not privileges, and leaders need to serve others unselfishly.

What Does the Book of Mormon Teach About Taxes?
The Book of Mormon speaks about the tax policies of five leaders. Two of them worked to minimize taxes on their people, while the other three imposed exorbitant taxes on their people, with predictably catastrophic results. King Benjamin reported to his people at the end of his life that he had labored with his own…
Riplakish – Ether 10:5-8
5 And it came to pass that Riplakish did not do that which was right in the sight of the Lord, for he did have many wives and concubines, and did lay that upon men’s shoulders which was grievous to be borne; yea, he did tax them with heavy taxes; and with the taxes he…

He Did Do Justice unto the People, but Not unto Himself – Ether 10:11
11 And he did do justice unto the people, but not unto himself because of his many whoredoms; wherefore he was cut off from the presence of the Lord. (Ether 10:11) It is tragic when an otherwise accomplished, disciplined, and hard-working individual makes short-sighted and self-defeating decisions in their personal life. For example, Morianton was…

The Sons of Jacob
Jacob had twelve sons. Each of them was unique, with his own strengths and weaknesses. In the Genesis narrative, as each son is born, we learn not only their name but also the significance of the name to Rachel or Leah (Genesis 29:32-35, Genesis 30:1-24, Genesis 35:18). Some of these boys were their literal children,…
Ether and the Books of Kings
Ether has a lot in common with the books of 1 & 2 Kings in the Old Testament: In both accounts, we see the effects of a leader’s character on their nation. Prophets deliver warnings boldly. They are not afraid to share the truth, even when it’s unpopular.
