Alma 23 – Mission to the Lamanites: Thousands Converted

Alma 22Alma 24

Lamoni’s father, who is king over all of the Lamanites, issues a proclamation that the sons of Mosiah may preach anywhere in his kingdom without persecution or hindrance. They travel throughout the land, and thousands of Lamanites are converted. These people no longer wanted to be called Lamanites, and they instead chose to be known as “Anti-Nephi-Lehies.”

Chapter Outline

  1. The king proclaims that the sons of Mosiah may preach throughout his kingdom (v. 1-3)
  2. Thousands of Lamanites are converted (v. 4-15)
  3. They are known as Anti-Nephi-Lehies (v. 16-18)

My Takeaways

  1. Religious freedom includes not only the right to believe as you choose but the right to communicate your beliefs.
  2. Some things that can make your conversion more durable include: covenants and mutual support among believers, as well as structured worship and scripture.

Converted

Many Lamanites were converted after being taught by the sons of Mosiah. Elder David A. Bednar taught that, for most of us, conversion is a gradual change. We must be patient as our natures become aligned with the will of God over time.
