“He Redeemed Them, and Bore Them, and Carried Them”

When the Savior returns to the earth, we will be delighted and relieved to see Him. After that initial time of rejoicing, we will become more contemplative. One of the things we will notice, according to Isaiah, is how much Jesus has carried us, far more than we had previously noticed.

I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord, and the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses. …

In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

Isaiah 63:7, 9; compare Doctrine and Covenants 133:52-53

Even if we are generally aware that His tender mercies are over us (1 Nephi 1:20), we will see much more clearly how He has carried us. We will be so much more attuned to His succoring ministry in our lives, which is directly manifest by His willingness to suffer alongside us. (See Alma 7:11-12.)

Elder Neil L. Andersen testified:

The Savior is our Good Samaritan, sent “to heal the brokenhearted.” He comes to us when others pass us by. With compassion, He places His healing balm on our wounds and binds them up. He carries us. He cares for us. He bids us, “Come unto me … and I shall heal [you].”

Wounded,” October 2018 general conference

Today, I will remember that Jesus is carrying me in ways that I am not even aware of. I will take comfort from Isaiah’s imagery of His people mentioning His “lovingkindnesses” and acknowledging the many ways He has carried us when we are reunited with Him.
