Seducing Spirits

Paul warned Timothy, “In the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (1 Timothy 4:1).

Who are these “seducing spirits?” They may be people who have gained broad acceptance. They may even be people we know personally. President Russell M. Nelson quoted this verse after giving the following counsel: “When someone you love attacks truth, think celestial, and don’t question your testimony” (“Think Celestial!” General Conference, October 2023, italics in original).

He added, “There is no end to the adversary’s deceptions. Please be prepared. Never take counsel from those who do not believe.”

Whom can we trust?

Prophets of God, friends and relatives with strong faith, and most importantly, the Spirit of the Lord. Nephi taught, “If ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do” (2 Nephi 32:5). And Moroni promised, “By the power of the Holy Ghost, ye may know the truth of all things” (Moroni 10:5).

Today, I will listen to trustworthy sources of information. I will stand firm in my faith even if other people criticize or ridicule it. I will focus in particular on hearing and following the Holy Ghost.
