16 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles who had gone forth out of captivity did humble themselves before the Lord; and the power of the Lord was with them.
17 And I beheld that their mother Gentiles were gathered together upon the waters, and upon the land also, to battle against them.
18 And I beheld that the power of God was with them, and also that the wrath of God was upon all those that were gathered together against them to battle.
19 And I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles that had gone out of captivity were delivered by the power of God out of the hands of all other nations.
Today, I have been remembering the courage and the integrity of the founders of the United States. They rallied around a collection of truths which they described as being “self-evident,” and they were willing to take on a powerful foe with faith that God would bless them for their adherence to those truths.
I’m grateful for the freedoms I enjoy as a citizen of the United States of America, and I’m grateful that the Book of Mormon reaffirms the hand of the Lord in the establishment of this nation.
This week, I will follow the example of the founders of this nation by humbling myself before God and defending truth even if I risk opposition for doing so. I will have faith that the power of God will be with me as I do these things.
