30 Therefore there was a law given them, yea, a law of performances and of ordinances, a law which they were to observe strictly from day to day, to keep them in remembrance of God and their duty towards him.
The Gospel Topics section of lds.org defines an ordinance as “a sacred, formal act performed by the authority of the priesthood.” Why are these formal acts necessary?
In the passage above, the prophet Abinadi teaches King Noah and his wicked priests about the law of Moses, which prescribed a number of “performances and ordinances.” He explained that the purposes of those actions was to “keep them in remembrance of God and their duty towards him.”
As I study ordinances this week, I will watch for ways in which these sacred and formal acts can help me remember my Heavenly Father and my duty towards Him. I will be grateful that Heavenly Father has specified tangible actions to symbolize the covenants I have made with him and to help make them more memorable to me.
