Use Boldness, but Not Overbearance – Alma 38:12

12 Use boldness, but not overbearance; and also see that ye bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love; see that ye refrain from idleness.

Alma counsels his son Shiblon in this passage to find a balance between two extremes in his communications with other people. “Use boldness, but not overbearance;”
  • If a person lacks boldness, he or she may fail to speak the truth even when it is the right thing to do because they fear the reactions of their listeners.
  • On the other hand, an overbearing person shows a lack of respect for others and tries to force them to do things his or her way.
Today I will follow Alma’s counsel.  I will be bold and not shy away from difficult conversations.   I will not be overbearing, but will respect others’ ideas, even when I disagree with them.
