9 And the world, because of their iniquity, shall judge him to be a thing of naught; wherefore they scourge him, and he suffereth it; and they smite him, and he suffereth it. Yea, they spit upon him, and he suffereth it, because of his loving kindness and his long-suffering towards the children of men.
There’s an important lesson in the first phrase of this verse. Why does the world fail to see the value of the Savior? Because of iniquity.
We know that sin damages us and those around us. We also know that it leads to unhappiness. Perhaps we don’t think as often about the fact that it distorts our vision and impairs our judgement. When we are in a sinful state, we may reject good gifts simply because we don’t recognize that they are good (Moroni 7:19).
Today I will recommit to avoid sin, and to repent speedily when I fall short, in order to maintain my clarity of vision and see “things as they really are.” (D&C 93:24)
