Great Shall Be The Peace of Thy Children – 3 Nephi 22:13

13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

I’ve been thinking this week about teaching. In particular, I am interested in understanding better how to be an effective gospel teacher. The other day, I focused on Ether 6:17, which says, “And they were taught to walk humbly before the Lord; and they were also taught from on high.” I noted that an effective gospel teacher helps their students to hear the Spirit of the Lord, so that they can receive the customized teaching they need directly from God.
In the passage above, the Savior quotes from the prophet Isaiah, and delivers both a prophecy and a promise. In the last days, when the stakes of Zion are established throughout the world, our children will be taught “of the Lord.” As a result, their peace will be great.
I realize that “of the Lord” could mean either “about the Lord” or “by the Lord.” Today, I’m thinking about it in the second way: when we can help our children learn to reach out to the Lord and receive revelation directly from God, then they can receive the peace they need to navigate in a tumultuous and troubled world.
Today, I will consider what I can teach my children to help them learn to receive revelation from God. I will remember that peace comes through the influence of the Holy Ghost, and by following the counsel we receive directly from our Heavenly Father.
