Jesus quoted Abinadi twice, once just before He was born, and once just after His death. Nephi, whose great-great-great-grandfather Alma had heard Abinadi speak those words, may have recognized this as an endorsement of Abinadi's testimony.
Mercy
1. God is merciful. 2. He extends "arms of mercy" toward us. 3. The Savior's bowels are filled with mercy because of what He suffered. 4. He earned the right to offer us mercy. We claim that mercy by repenting. 5. Mercy is central to God's plan for us.
God With Us
Isaiah prophesied that a virgin would bear a son and call him "Immanuel," which means "God with us." As Abinadi testified, God Himself came to earth. Jesus fulfilled that prophecy. We are not only walking toward God and Christ. We are walking with Them.
Prologue of Hebrews
God speaks to us in many ways, but none of those channels is so direct and so impactful as the words of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is greater than angels, prophets and priests, and all of them point us toward Him.
Every Knee, Every Tongue
In his epistle to the Philippians, Paul writes poetically about the Savior's humility as evidenced by His willingness to descend from heaven and dwell with us. We honor Him not only because He created this world but also because He loved us.
Another Gospel
The good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that God himself came to earth, suffered and died for us, and rose again three days later. Each of us needs to develop our own conviction of those truths, independent of anyone else.
Numbered with the Transgressors
Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would be "numbered among the transgressors." He did this in at least 4 ways: 1. He became mortal. 2. He spent time with sinners. 3. He was condemned and punished like a sinner. 4. He absorbed the consequences of our sins.
Abuse
Jesus condemned child abuse in the strongest possible terms. President Nelson has also reiterated the Savior's teachings on this issue. Here are some things I learned by studying the Church's abuse prevention website today.
General Conference
This weekend, we will have the opportunity to learn from prophets and apostles. Here are some ideas to help you get the most out of that experience.
