“They Shall Be Upon Aaron’s Heart”

Priests in ancient Israel were teachers with accountability for the spiritual welfare of their people. Their vestments and ordinances were intended to help the people become holy. As Jacob and Alma explained in the Book of Mormon, priesthood is ultimately a call to purity through Christ.

Seeing the Face of God

The first verse of Doctrine and Covenants 93 lays out a simple formula: Those who follow Christ will come to know Him. He promises that we will "see [His] face and know that [He is]," which implies far more than being in His presence. It means that we will understand and recognize Him.

Thy Calling, Thy Duty

God's callings serve two purposes: giving us opportunities to serve others while simultaneously opening our hearts to receive the sanctifying power of Jesus Christ.

None Other Work

The Lord told the ancient prophet Joseph that He would command Joseph Smith to do "none other work" than what he had been given to do. We can apply this principle by fulfilling our assignments well and not doing someone else's job for them.

Psalm 95 and Alma 12-13

Alma doesn't tell us that he's quoting from Psalm 95, but during his sermon in Ammonihah, he elaborates on phrases and concepts from that psalm. The central message: repent now, be receptive to God, and He will give you peace and stability.

Amaleki

Amaleki's father knew "of no revelation." How did Amaleki come to write such a powerful testimony? He had no children, and his brother was gone. Was he alone? Like Amaleki, we can contribute meaningfully, regardless of our background and circumstances.

“Their Delicate Minds”

Jacob taught the men among his people to become more attuned to the impact of their actions on their wives and children, whose feelings were tender. God was aware, and they should be too, of the wounds caused by their insensitivity toward their loved ones

Daily Death and Resurrection

In his epistles to the Corinthians, Paul uses death and resurrection as a metaphor for God's daily deliverance. If we believe that God will raise us from the dead, then surely we can also believe that He will help us through our smaller afflictions today.

A House Divided

God seeks to bring people together. Satan seeks to divide us, because we are easier to conquer when we're alone. Jesus taught that a house divided cannot stand. We can follow Him by bringing people together instead of separating them.
