Mosiah 28 – Mosiah Approves the Lamanite Mission, Translates the Jaredite Plates

Mosiah 27Mosiah 29

Ammon told Limhi that Mosiah was a seer. (See Mosiah 8:13-18.) In this chapter, we see Mosiah receiving revelation at least twice. (1) The Lord tells him to allow his sons to serve as missionaries among the Lamanites as they have requested. (2) Mosiah translates the Jaredite plates.

Chapter Outline

  1. Mosiah gives his sons permission to preach to the Lamanites (v. 1-9)
  2. Mosiah translates the Jaredite record (v. 10-19)
  3. Mosiah passes the sacred records on to Alma (v. 20)

My Takeaways

  1. When we are changed by the power of God, we want to help other people experience the same transformation.
  2. God guards some information closely. He will share, but only after we demonstrate that we are ready.
  3. Imperfect people can contribute meaningfully to the work of the Lord

After their conversion, the sons of King Mosiah decided that they wanted to preach the gospel to their enemies. This was their idea. They weren’t told to do it.
