Mosiah 21 – Limhi’s People Are Humbled; Ammon Arrives

Mosiah 20Mosiah 22

Limhi’s people went to battle three times against their Lamanite captors, losing badly each time. Finally, they humbled themselves, “subjecting themselves to the yoke of bondage” and praying for deliverance. Eventually, Ammon arrived with a search party from Zarahemla. (See Mosiah 7:1-7.)

Chapter Outline

  1. Three battles, three losses (v. 1-12)
  2. Limhi’s people humble themselves and pray (v. 13-22)
  3. Ammon arrives (v. 23-36)

My Takeaways

  1. Learn from your failures, and change your tactics as needed.
  2. Adversity can be a blessing but only if we choose to humble ourselves.
  3. God always hears us, even when He doesn’t immediately answer our prayers.

“They Did Humble Themselves” – Mosiah 21:13-14

I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise, since everyone suffers. Prospering by Degrees

God was slow to hear the prayers of the people of Limhi, but they did begin “to prosper by degrees.” God’s blessings often come incrementally, so if we’re looking for the big blessing, we may miss the small ones that come along the way.

Why Did Ammon Consider Himself Unworthy to Baptize?

One of my daughters asked me last week if Ammon had authority to baptize. Ammon was the leader of a search party sent by King Mosiah to find a group of people who had established a colony among their enemies many years earlier. When he found them, they were in bondage, forced to pay a…

“I Will Not Hear”

The book of Isaiah opens dramatically. The Lord tells the children of Israel that they have forsaken Him, that they are damaging themselves by their actions, and that He doesn’t want to be a part of it any more. In words that must have been shocking to Isaiah’s listeners, the Lord tells them to stop…
