Alma 47 – Amalackiah Becomes King of the Lamanites

Alma 46Alma 48

After escaping from Moroni’s army, Amalackiah relocates to the land of the Lamanites. He convinces the king to attack the Lamanites, overcomes a group of resisters by tricking and poisoning their leader, assassinates the king, and marries the queen, becoming the new king of the Lamanites. Mormon ends the chapter by observing that dissenters from the Nephites like Amalackiah tended to become more hardened than the Lamanites themselves.

Chapter Outline

  1. Amalackiah takes command of the troops who are loyal to the king (v. 1-4)
  2. He becomes the leader of the rebellious troops by deceiving and murdering their captain, Lehonti (v. 5-19)
  3. He returns to the capital, and his servants assassinate the king (v. 20-30)
  4. He marries the queen (v. 31-36)

  3. Our decisions shape our character, so make choices which lead you toward the person you hope to become.
