At the end of His ministry in the Americas, Jesus visited His twelve disciples. Paraphrasing three passages from His Sermon on the Mount, He urged them to pray, to prioritize relationships over possessions, and to follow Him with precision.
“I Am Jesus Christ”
When the Savior visited the people at the temple in Bountiful, He introduced Himself concisely and powerfully. He provided context for His arrival, identified what He does for us, and explained the atoning sacrifice He had offered on our behalf.
What Does Darkness Feel Like?
The ninth plague was darkness so thick it could be felt. The Nephites experienced a similar darkness after the death of Jesus. But they heard Him declare that He is the light of the world, and their mourning was replaced by joy when the light returned.
Every Valley
Samuel's prophecies were literally fulfilled. They also symbolize the Savior's influence in our lives, as He smooths our rough edges, brings us down where we are proud, lifts us up where we lack confidence and gives us hope, like a new star.
Being the Father and the Son
Jesus is both the Father and the Son in at least four ways: 1. He submits His will to His Father and He offers us new life. 2. He created the earth, then lived on it. 3. He is completely unified with HIs Father 4. His mortal body was subject to His spirit
Retain the Name
Benjamin invited his people to take upon themselves the name of Christ after they had been spiritually reborn and had made a covenant with God. What more did they need to do? They needed to engage in the relationship. Relationships require effort. They are not static.
“He Is Risen”
Jesus prophesied that He would be killed and would rise again the third day. His disciples didn't understand, but angels later reminded them of this prophecy. Nephi wrote that Jesus would rise "with healing in his wings." He has power to heal each of us.
He Suffereth It
The word "suffer" can have 2 meanings in English: (1) endure pain, and (2) allow or permit. When Nephi tells us that Jesus suffered being smitten, scourged, and spat upon, he meant both. Jesus endured unfathomable pain for us, and He did it willingly.
Christmas, Easter, and the Book of Mormon
The birth of Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection are prominently featured in the Book of Mormon. Christmas is important because of Easter. President Nelson taught that Easter is the most important religious observance for followers of Christ.
Doctrine
Doctrine means something given by a "doctor," which is the Latin word for teacher. The doctrine of Christ includes everything Jesus taught and everything He has instructed us to do. We should study His words and incorporate them into our daily decisions.
