Don’t Pollute Your Inheritance

Church members in Missouri lost their homes because "they polluted their inheritances." So many of the blessings we enjoy are unearned — bequeathed to us by other people or by God. We "pollute" those gifts when we neglect them or use them in a way that is contrary to the intent of the giver.

Tithing and the Day of Burning

Malachi taught that God blesses us when we pay tithing. He also prophesied of a day which will "burn as an oven." Modern revelation combines these concepts: "He that is tithed shall not be burned at [the Savior's] coming." Tithing prepares us to stand in God's presence by opening our hearts to receive His grace.

Moroni’s Collaborative Conclusion

Moroni draws heavily on the writings of his precessors in his concluding remarks. This collaboration with prior prophets enhances the power of his message and helps us to see "how merciful the Lord hath been." in all ages of the world.

“O Ye Pollutions”

Moroni asked why we have "polluted to the holy church of God." The church is a hospital for sinners, but as we participate, we are also doctors and nurses. We ought to approach that responsibility with care, recognizing our shortcomings as we help others.

Out of Darkness

Our challenges and constraints do not prevent us from uplifting and inspiring other people. We may bring them closer to God even as we pass through difficult experiences.

Moroni’s Excellent Hope

Moroni had every reason to despair. His people had been destroyed, and he was alone. Yet he wrote extensively about the hope that we receive through the Spirit of the Lord, which helps us endure challenges and which prepares us to return to God's presence

“Vengeance Is Mine”

People who speak in terms of vengeance and retribution are not in harmony with the Spirit of God. We need to expect more from ourselves, from the people around us, and from our political leaders.

Another Angel

John said that "another angel" would (1) bring the gospel, (2) make it available to everyone, and (3) prepare us for the return of Jesus Christ. That angel was Moroni, the last author in the Book of Mormon, and the work he started continues today.

The Gall of Bitterness

Peter told Simon that he was in the "gall of bitterness." Gall is bile. It is a bitter substance which our bodies use for digestion. Alma taught that Jesus can help us overcome spiritual bitterness. When we recognize our need and ask for help, He is there

…More Than These?

Jesus asked if Peter loved Him "more than these?" He might have meant everything around them: the boat, the sea, the nets. Peter was in his comfort zone. Did he love the Savior enough to sacrifice those things he loved so much in order to follow Him?
