God wants our lives, our homes, and our discipleship to be orderly. When we exercise faith in Him and are willing to repent, He will invite us into His order, which will enable us to experience peace and calmness.
Foreordained
Alma taught that people were foreordained to participate in God's work but that they only receive those assignments when they choose to do good. All of us have been chosen to fulfill specific missions in life, and those assignments come when we are ready.
How to Preach
Alma was an effective teacher because he taught according to: 1. The revelations received by his predecessors. 2. The spirit of prophecy: He received revelation while he taught. 3. The testimony of Jesus 4. The holy order by which he was called.
His Holy Order
Jacob said that he had been called and ordained according to God's holy order. The earliest meaning of "order" is "a body of persons living under a religious discipline." God's church provides a community and activities which help us draw closer to Him.
Testimony of Jesus = Spirit of Prophecy
An angel told John that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. The only way we can be sure that Jesus is our Savior is by direct, personal revelation from God. Therefore, the people who have that testimony are the people who receive revelation.
Letters to the Seven Churches
John wrote letters to seven congregations of the church. In those letters, he described the Savior, gave feedback, and listed some blessings of exaltation. Taken together, the letters can motivate us to repent and receive the blessings God offers us.
To Day
David said that our deadline to repent is "today." So did Paul, Jacob, Alma, and Amulek. Paul explains that the deadline of "today" applies to us. President Nelson added that we should repent every day, because repentance is not an event. It's a process.
All Scripture Is Profitable
Why do you study the scriptures? Paul told Timothy that scriptures are profitable for doctrine, for correction, and to for instruction. We should study with an open mind, eager to learn what God would have us do and what adjustments we need to make.
