The scriptures teach that God uses the weak things of the world to accomplish miracles. He does this for three reasons. 1. Weak people are more willing to accept His help. 2. Other people recognize His hand. 3. Everyone is empowered to participate.
Farewell…Until
Three authors in the Book of Mormon say farewell to their future readers. All three assure us that we will see them someday. The gospel assures us that separation is temporary. The most important things we gain in life will endure beyond the grave.
Moroni’s Collaborative Conclusion
Moroni draws heavily on the writings of his precessors in his concluding remarks. This collaboration with prior prophets enhances the power of his message and helps us to see "how merciful the Lord hath been." in all ages of the world.
What Do You Delight In?
Mormon said his people "delighted in everything save that which is good." When we delight in something, we immerse ourselves in it and savor it. So what delights you, and how can you adjust your actions and attitudes to be more delighted by good things?
If Ye Believe Not
Nephi said that if we don't believe his words, we should believe in Christ. He expressed confidence that if we believe in Christ, we will eventually believe in his words. We should be patient with one another as we grow over time in knowledge and faith.
Nephi: Talk or Text
The spoken word can be more impactful than the written word. Nephi knew this and lamented that many people would not take his words seriously. We can apply this principle in two ways: (1) talk about the gospel and (2) put effort into being better readers.
He Will Consecrate
In 2 Nephi, we learn that God will consecrate our afflictions, our performances, and our prayers for our benefit. We usually think of consecration as something we do, but we know that God can turn our offerings into something of far greater value.
