Heavenly messengers gave Joseph Smith authority. God delegates different types of authority to different people, so that we can all contribute to His work. The heavenly messengers all lived previously on earth. Our work is not limited to our mortal lives.
“I Am Jesus Christ”
When the Savior visited the people at the temple in Bountiful, He introduced Himself concisely and powerfully. He provided context for His arrival, identified what He does for us, and explained the atoning sacrifice He had offered on our behalf.
Nephi’s Vision and Nephi’s Prophecy
Many themes from Nephi's vision (1 Nephi 11-14) also appear in Nephi's prophecy (2 Nephi 25-30): 1. Jesus Christ would be crucified. 2. Nephi's descendants would write scripture. 3. God will do a work which will bless the whole world.
Innovation vs. “Vain Imaginations”
An angel told Nephi that the great and spacious building represents "vain imaginations." Innovation and imagination in the service of worthy goals are good. Innovation and imagination as distractions from our core goals are bad.
Letters to the Seven Churches
John wrote letters to seven congregations of the church. In those letters, he described the Savior, gave feedback, and listed some blessings of exaltation. Taken together, the letters can motivate us to repent and receive the blessings God offers us.
