In the second section of Nephi’s vision, he sees the activities of his descendants, including postmortal ministry of Jesus Christ among them. He also sees many wars, culminating in the complete destruction of his people.
Chapter Outline
- Nephi sees many wars among his descendants (v. 1-3).
- He sees the ministry of the Savior among them followed by four generations of peace (v. 4-12).
- He sees the descendants of his brothers overpowering his descendants. Mists of darkness = temptations of the devil. Large and spacious building = pride (v. 13-23).
My Takeaways
- Just as the Holy Ghost speaks to our minds and our hearts, the devil attempts to disrupt both our mental and emotional faculties.
- Intentional effort is required to counteract the erosion of our faith.
- Everyone who has taught us will be with us at the Final Judgment. We will know that they did their part to help us be ready.

Innovation vs. “Vain Imaginations”
An angel told Nephi that the great and spacious building represents “vain imaginations.” Innovation and imagination in the service of worthy goals are good. Innovation and imagination as distractions from our core goals are bad.
