The Empty Tomb

On a Sunday morning, three women approached a tomb and found it empty. Today, we celebrate that moment. Because of the Savior's resurrection, we will all be released from the bondage of death. Because of Him, death is temporary, and life is forever.

Soul: Spirit and Body

Five important Easter truths: 1. We are embodied spirits. 2. We need a body to be truly happy. 3. Physical death is the separation of our spirit from our body. 4. Jesus Christ was resurrected. 5. Because of Him, we will all be resurrected.

Firstfruits

God commanded ancient Israel to bring their first crops each year to His house. Why were those crops considered holy? Because they represented the Savior, "the firstfruits of them that slept." Jesus overcame death so that all of us can rise from the dead.

Flesh and Bones

Resurrected bodies are tangible, just like our mortal bodies. But they are also different in some ways. After His resurrection, Jesus was not constrained by walls, was not always recognizable, and was able to ascend to heaven.

He Is Risen

It is significant that Jesus didn't simply go on living. He physically died and then was resurrected. We will all die, and His resurrection teaches us that everything bad, including death, is temporary. There will be light. There will be calm.

In My Flesh

"If a man die, shall he live again?" asked Job. There is more than a hint of doubt in the question, especially in light of the gloomy content which precedes it, but he immediately follows up with a statement of hope: "All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come"... The Fallacies of Nehor – Alma 1:3-4

Less than a year after King Mosiah's death, during Alma's first year as chief judge, a man named Nehor created some controversy in the land of Zarahemla, by advocating two principles which opposed the teachings of the church. Here are two false teachings which he promoted: The fallacy of popularity - Nehor taught that "every priest... Continue Reading →

“Swallowed Up in Christ” – Mosiah 16:8

I've been thinking today about Abinadi's testimony that "the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ" (Mosiah 16:8). Abinadi was likely familiar with Isaiah's prophecy that the Lord would one day "swallow up death in victory" (Isaiah 25:8). He knew that this passage referred to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because of His resurrection,... Continue Reading →
