"Author and finisher" can also be translated "pioneer and perfecter." Jesus sparks our faith through His teachings and invitations, and then He works with us to improve and refine that faith over time.
Jesus Christ has supported us from the beginning, and He will continue to be with us to the end.
The Savior not only has the power to save us, but that He presides over vast armies of angels who provide assistance and guidance to us when we need their help.
