An Offering for Sin

Lehi and his descendants followed the law of Moses, including offering sacrifices. Book of Mormon prophets used that practice to teach their people about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and to encourage them to live a consecrated life.

Bezaleel

Moses selected a man named Bezaleel to lead the work of building the tabernacle. He executed the vision Moses had received, restraining the donations and overseeing the work of skilled craftsmen. When the work was done, Moses saw that it had been completed exactly as the Lord had specified.

Holiness to the Lord

Through Moses, the Lord gave the children of Israel a law. It's a wondrous set of objects, activities, and sacred times all intended to point their hearts to the salvation He would provide them. The Nephites lived this law, recognizing that it pointed their minds forward to Jesus Christ.

Types and Shadows

A type is a copy of something. A shadow is a representation of something. It's important not to confuse the type or the shadow with the thing itself. Abinadi taught that the law cannot save us, but it can point us to Christ, who can save us.

Schoolmasters

Paul said, "The law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ" (Galatians 3:24). We have "schoolmasters" in our lives: patterns of behavior which bring us closer to Christ. We need to keep these patterns in perspective and focus on the Savior.

How Did Jesus Fulfill the Law?

Jesus fulfilled the law in three ways: (1) by completing His mission, rendering the religious observances of the law of Moses obsolete, (2) by fulfilling scriptural prophecies, and (3) by clarifying the meaning and purpose of God's commandments.

Why Did the Nephites Keep the Law of Moses?

The apostle Paul told the saints in Galatia that the law of Moses had served as a "schoolmaster" to help them develop faith in Jesus Christ.
