God explained to Enoch that a great flood would one day destroy the wicked, and only Enoch’s great-grandson, Noah, and his family would be spared (Moses 7:32-38, 42-43). Enoch pleaded that this flooding might be a one-time event, never to be repeated. In response, God “covenanted with Enoch, and sware unto him with an oath, that he would stay the floods” (Moses 7:51).
But God further explained that in the distant future, He would respond to widespread wickedness with a different kind of flood:
Righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth…and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem.

Isaiah prophesied that, “all the ends of the earth” would one day “see the salvation of our God” (Isaiah 52:10, Mosiah 12:24, Mosiah 15:31, 3 Nephi 16:20, 3 Nephi 20:35). Both Mormon and Moroni believed that their words would be disseminated to “all the ends of the earth” (Mormon 3:18, Moroni 10:24).
In 2014, Elder David A. Bednar invited us to be part of that process:
I exhort you to sweep the earth with messages filled with righteousness and truth, messages that are authentic, edifying, and praiseworthy, and literally to “sweep the earth as with a flood.”

Throughout the scriptures, God has warned us of the consequences of improper choices. The good news is that He wants us to succeed. See 2 Peter 3:9: “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
