Mosiah 25-28: “They Were Called the People of God” (May 18-24)

angel_alma_the_younger

After Limhi’s people and Alma’s people returned to Zarahemla, King Mosiah read their histories to his people. He then authorized Alma to establish churches across the land, just as Alma had organized a church at the waters of Mormon (Mosiah 25:19). The last four chapters of Mosiah describe several significant events which occured during the 30 years (approximately) that Mosiah governed the kingdom and Alma led the church:

  1. Alma confronts the issue of church members who refuse to follow church standards (Mosiah 26).
  2. Alma’s son and the four sons of Mosiah are converted to the gospel by an angel of the Lord (Mosiah 27).
  3. The sons of Mosiah begin their mission to the Lamanites (Mosiah 28:1-9).
  4. Mosiah translates the Jaredite record found by Limhi’s people (Mosiah 28:10-20).

“Remember the Captivity of Thy Fathers” – Mosiah 27:16

The angel who appeared to Alma the Younger gave him a specific instruction: Now I say unto thee: Go, and remember the captivity of thy fathers in the land of Helam, and in the land of Nephi; and remember how great things he has done for them; for they were in bondage, and he has…

“Because Thou Hast Inquired of Me…Thou Art Blessed” (Mosiah 26:19)

When Alma faced a difficult decision as the leader of the church, he went to the Lord in prayer. He “poured out his whole soul to God,” asking for guidance (Mosiah 26:13-14). In response, he received an answer from God. Four times in His response, the Lord called Alma “blessed,” because of good things he…

After Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah were miraculously converted to the gospel, they got to work immediately: And now it came to pass that Alma began from this time forward to teach the people, and those who…
